Calendar
The netAdventist calender makes it easy for you to create an online calendar that everyone can contribute and subscribe to. Visitors to your site can add events to your calendar (don't worry, the site administrator must approve them before they become publicly visible). Visitors to your site can also subscribe to your calendar with software that supports the ICS format, including Outlook 2007 and iCal. In addition, your netAdventist calendar can be shared with other netAdventist sites--helping you coordinate with other organizations you work with regularly.

Adding Calendar Events

  • Sign in to your netAdventist site.
  • Select the Dashboard link at the bottom of the home page.
  • Click on the Website Pages tab at the top of the page.
  • Select the Calendar link from the menu on the left side of the screen. The calendar is where you place events. Like News, the link will open up to reveal additional calendar options.
  • Select the button labeled Add Events on the top right.
  • Fill in the required fields to complete your calendar event entry. Select a start date and an end date. If your event repeats, click on the Event Repeats field and select an appropriate repetition from the drop-down menu. The repetition choice will determine what additional choices you must make. For example, if you select the Weekly choice several more choices open that must be entered, such as Weekly repeat interval (how often you wish the event to repeat), Days on which to repeat (Sunday, Monday, etc.), and Recurrence end date (when you wish the event to stop posting in your calendar). These additional options are helpful if you run a six-week cooking class that meets two days a week or if you sponsor an evangelistic series that runs for eight weeks and meets Sunday, Monday, and Friday. Once you are finished adding the repeat information, you can add additional details using the editor screen and then set your access level and sharing status in the properties at the bottom.
  • Select Save as draft. Your calendar entry will be moved to the Draft folder under Calendars in the Website Pages tab menu.
  • Click on the Preview button in the orange bar to view your entry before making it live. A new tab or window will open showing the changes made in a preview screen before it is actually published. There will be a bracketed Exit Preview link on the preview page. Select the Exit Preview link to revert to back to your new custom page. Your original window doesn't close so to continue editing your content in the Dashboard close the new window and return to the original tab.
  • Select the gold Publish button after previewing the event. The event will be moved into the Published folder under Calendars in the Website Pages tab menu.
  • When finished displaying the event, move it to the Archive folder by selecting the event and then clicking on the Archive button. The event will be moved into the Archive folder under the Calendars menu.
  • Should you need to revisit the calendar event, return it to the Draft folder by selecting the event and then clicking on the Revert to Draft button. The event will be moved to the Draft folder under the Calendars menu.
  • Any of your site members can enter a calendar event on the front end of your site as well. To do this, go to your site's home page and select the Calendar from your main menu or click on any existing event you have displayed on your site (you will have to be logged-in to do this). If you haven't added the Calendar to your main menu or to your home page template as a widget, you will need to do so before it can be used or displayed. Once you have an event page open, select the Submit button at the top the screen. A box will open with a simple editor so that events can be entered. When finished, scroll to the bottom and select Save.
  • The calendar event entered from your site's home page will be posted in the Pending folder under Calendars in the Website Pages tab menu. Select the event and click on the Approved button in the orange bar to make it live on your site.
  • Calendar events can also be added from other calendar sites by selecting the Subscriptions (ICS) link from the drop-down list under Calendar. These are calendar event entries shared by other sites and will show on your calendar if selected.
  • Enter a name and web address (URL) for a shared calendar. Select Save.
  • The shared calendar event you subscribe to will show on your Subscriptions (ICS) list and will display along with your own local content.
